Life, Packed

This is kind of what life looks like right now:

I wake up and stumble into the bathroom. I open the drawer to find my hairbrush: Not there. I locate the hairbrush in the travel bag and start to brush my hair. I look up at the wall to see what time it is: No clock.

I come out and settle in to do therapy on the couch. Only two throw pillows remain; the other three have all been used as extra padding in various dishware boxes. (Who says you can't pack dishes securely without special boxes? Ha!) Once I'm done, my mind turns to breakfast. The fridge is mostly bare and yesterday's muffins are gone. Maybe oatmeal, I think? I open the cupboard: Empty. Oh yeah. I packed that yesterday.

This pattern continues on throughout the day. Measuring cups? Yep, I saved one, so I hope I can estimate what 1/3 a cup looks like from a full cup measure! (I know most people are 100% eating out at this point, but we both rejected that idea because frankly, the thought of it made us both nauseated.) Snacks, dear husband? We don't exactly have any.

Envelopes or postage stamps to mail all the things I suddenly realize need to be mailed? Nestled in a box somewhere. Likewise with Mahon's grungy work pants (which he wants to wear tonight when we move everything out). Likewise with, well, most of our belongings.

I admit, I am really counting down the moments until Saturday night, when we will (if all goes well) be happily moved into our new place, with boxes (hopefully) distributed into their proper rooms, and we can go ahead and dive into any box we need. These last few days of a big move, my friends? Not my favorite thing ever.

I have a picture to go along with this post—photographic evidence of our whole living room piled high with boxes upon boxes—but I'll have to wait a few day to share it.

Camera transfer cable?

You guessed it.

In a box.

  1. Having moved many times myself, and across the country twice, I can totally relate! Just a few more days and things will get better.

  3. Ugh, this does not sound fun. I haven't moved in a long time, and even then it was just from my parent's house to my current house 20 minutes away. If I forgot something, it didn't matter. Also, items were in a box for a matter of a few hours. I dread the idea of when we move. I look around at all of our "stuff" and wonder how we'll pack it all up and transfer it to another house. Despite the fact that we desperately want more room when we have a child, we also don't want to do the move. We might stay where we are and just make the space work! Good luck!! I am glad you will be in a new home on Saturday evening!
