New Year

Usually, the last days of the year are a time of enormous reflection, planning, and self-reflection for me. I have several blogging traditions that look back on the year passed and prepare for the year to come. I love the time of the new year.

But in all honesty, I have thought about the coming of 2012 almost not at all this week. My mind has been so caught up with the events of the past two weeks—an unexpectedly bad illness right before Christmas, making the decision to move to Utah and frantically trying to make sure that we will have a place to live when we get there, and then traveling to NC and spending the last few days with my family—that I have hardly even registered the fact that I was experiencing the last few days of 2011.

About ten minutes ago I looked at the clock and realized in surprise, Huh. It's almost a new year.

I don't have any goals yet. I haven't figured out the "theme" of my year. I haven't done my "blog year in review." And really, I probably won't have time for much reflection or goal-setting for at least another four or five weeks.

So I guess, this year, I will be content with just quietly marking the passage into the new year. 2011 was a tough one, but a wonderful one.

I look forward to 2012.
