Christmas And Other Stuff
Several times over the last several days, I've thought about profound or funny or interesting things I could sit down and blog about. Several times I've almost sat down and done it. But I never did. This weekend has been an interesting combination of frantic activity (Friday) and quiet stupor (Saturday and Sunday). I had been running a fever since Tuesday and spent most of the week in bed (or, as the case may be, on couch), but Thursday night my fever spiked extremely high (for me with my low body temperature) and in the wee hours of Friday morning I woke with severe chest pain. Friday I spent the day running around getting various tests and prescriptions to make sure nothing was serious and that I could get through the weekend okay.
Friday we also made our final decision about something that has been happening in our lives lately, but that I haven't been at liberty to tell: We are moving to Utah next month. For the past few weeks Mahon has been interviewing and talking with a company down in Utah Valley, and Friday we made the decision to take the job they were offering and move five hours south. It's not really something that we had ever expected to do (and we still sort of wish it was on the east coast!), but we both felt like it was an opportunity that we needed to take. One huge blessing is that we will be only about an hour away from my hospital, instead of 4 hours! Another is that this job will hopefully provide a good stepping-stone to other jobs for Mahon later on. For a couple of reasons, we hope it will make him more "hire-able" in the future than the job he has now (as much as we love this job). So it looks like we will be moving down on the 20th or 21st of January, which—considering the fact that I only get back from NC on the 7th—is freaking me out a little bit! But one way or another, we'll make it work.
Because of the medical crisis, we ended up canceling the big Christmas dinner we had planned to host and Mahon and I just spent the weekend quietly together—particularly quietly since much of that time I was pretty out of it from painkillers! Still, overall, it was a lovely weekend and we enjoyed our fourth Christmas together. I'm not back to normal yet, but I'm definitely doing better than I was on Friday, which is a huge relief!
In all honesty, my blogging over the next month and a half will most likely be sporadic, as I imagine I'll be pretty frantic trying to find housing, visit my family in NC, and then get the apartment packed up and ready to move in just two weeks. I'm sure I'll be here now and then, though, sharing funny things (like the package I wrapped for Mahon which really should win "ugliest wrapped gift") and details about our newest adventure!
